Now and then – Alex – children’s portrait photography in Kensington

20Mar

I came across this picture of Alex recently, a shot from our very first children’s photography session at the family’s Kensington home back in 2005. It made me smile so much, particularly as I have been lucky enough to see Alex and his siblings every year since then – we are now on our 9th photo shoot. It’s lovely to see how Alex has changed, but how the happy grin is still there – still so cheeky, and full of life and enthusiasm for everything going on around him. Alex is such a great kid, enormous fun to be around and so full of adventurous energy.

On each photo shoot, I always make sure I capture a lot of different types of pictures – my clients tend to buy albums and so I’m looking for more than ‘just one nice picture for the mantlepiece’; instead, I produce a document of the children at this time in their lives – what makes them tick, what they enjoy, running, playing and enjoying everything they do. I like to capture beautiful portraits that are simply composed and beautifully lilt – portraits that capture a child’s personality in a single image.

These images can be so much fun when looked back on, with their similar compositions but with years separating them. The essence is the same, though. I wonder what Alex will look like when he’s eighteen and I look forward to finding out.

In the meantime, I do hope you enjoy this ‘Now and Then’ post from our children and family photography sessions in Kensington, West London.
