I often say that, for me, the best bit about my job is seeing people regularly. Watching children grow up from one year to the next, seeing their personalities develop and enjoying their increasingly entertaining conversation. I love that about children, they just get more fun as the years go on.
I thought I would share some shots of Arthur today - six months to seven years old, a few favourites over the years
Apologies for the lack of blogging last week. Tom and I have been away in Barcelona drinking coffee in the sun, making paella and enjoying some much needed time off.
I'm back now though and revving up for the Easter holidays. Whilst I catch-up in the office, I wanted to post something new so here is an album design (I know these are always very popular with my regular readers) with some nice spring time shots to complement the season.
I am often a bit nosey when I visit my clients - while drinking a cup of coffee, I might look at the book cases (I am an avid reader) and see what kind of things my clients enjoy. I knew I would have a good time when I looked at Alison's book case and saw almost the exact mirror of my own.
I had such a great time with Alison and her family in Chislehurst. I am thrilled with the pictures and I hope you enjoy them too
Thank you so much to everyone who came along to my talk at the Apple Store on Regent St, London in association with the Royal Photographic Society. It was wonderful to speak to such a large crowd (apologies to those who had to stand at the back), and great to meet lots of people afterwards. I hope you all enjoyed the talk, and thank you to Robin and the team at the Apple Store for making me feel so welcome.
Thanks also to the wonderful wedding photographer Tom Catchesides for taking a few pictures of the talk. If anyone can remember what I was talking about when I pulled that funny face in the penultimate picture, do let me know.
If you were disappointed to miss my talk at SWPP or the Apple Store, there is another opportunity to catch it as part of an intensive one-day course I am hosting with Tom Catchesides on Monday 14th March. We still have a few places available and please see below for more details:
Post-production for portrait & wedding photographers - by Tom Catchesides & Helen Bartlett
Calumet Drummond St, London, Monday 14 March 2011
Join us for an intensive one-day course covering everything you need to polish your portrait & wedding images to a standard that will delight your clients. We'll be teaching you the techniques that we use every day in our own photography businesses. The course will explore:
Setting and exceeding client expectations.
Working with repeat clients.
Taking control of your workflow.
Post-production with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.
Practical portrait retouching.
Producing great black & white images from digital.
Presenting finished images to your clients.
The course is suitable for both established pros and those in the process of building a photography business. Some Photoshop experience is necessary, but a catch-up session will make sure that everyone attending the course is familiar with the tools used throughout.
Everyone attending the seminar will receive a disc containing details of the techniques demonstrated, sample files and the Photoshop Actions used during the course.
The workshop is taking place at Calumet's store on Drummond St in London. Lunch and refreshments are provided.

Following on from my recent maternity portrait session with Carol-Anne I visited again to take some newborn baby photographs. I was so excited to meet baby Annabelle, who is simply the cutest little thing. She snoozed happily through the entire photo shoot, occasionally opening one eye to check what was happening and then straight back to the land of zzz...
I am absolutely over the moon with the pictures, I hope you like them as much as I do
