Baby portrait photography in London and Cambridge
I love photographing babies and capturing this very special time, which often flies by in a whirlwind of love, excitement and sleep depravation! As the days and months go by and your baby grows from a tiny bundle into a smiling, laughing little person, there are many special moments to record for both you and your family.
For many people, the first photographs will be taken when your baby is only a few days old - still tiny and squidgy, and ever so cute - but you may choose to have your first portrait session when your baby is a little bit older (for newborn baby pictures, please take a look at our dedicated newborn and maternity section).
I recommend having your baby photographed either in the first few days for a newborn baby portrait session, or from about twelve weeks onwards, once your baby can prop their head up when lying on their tummy and are beginning to smile and interact with the world around them. This is a lovely time - your baby will still very little, but with their personality beginning to shine through.
Once your baby is able to sit up, the range of picture opportunities increases, as your baby plays with you and reaches out for (and chews on) all their favourite toys. A little older still at around 8 or 9 months is a fantastic time for very interactive baby pictures, and these sessions often have the added fun of your child beginning to crawl or sometimes stand for the very first time. About once a year I am lucky enough to be taking photographs when a child takes their first, tentative steps. These are moments that I treasure forever.
What to expect from your portrait session
As with all our portrait sessions, everything is very fun and relaxed. I will visit you at home for your portrait session and starting nice and early - straight after breakfast is usually best - and we'll spend the morning together with plenty of time for feeds, changes and naps. We can take a break for a cup of coffee whilst your baby has their mid-morning nap, then carry on with some more pictures afterwards, perhaps heading outdoors for some pictures in the park or your garden. I work around your child's routine to ensure that your baby feels relaxed and everyone enjoys the session.
What happens after your portrait session
After your portrait session, a member of the Helen Bartlett Photography team will arrange a viewing session at your home to show you your pictures. The aim of this session is to show you what is possible with your photographs and you will be shown samples of our high-quality bespoke photo albums, unframed and framed prints, canvas wraps, contemporary aluminum mounts and acrylic reverses to help you choose how you would like to present your pictures to enjoy for many years to come. You will also be able to see the photographs from your portrait session on a large screen and we will prepare an album design, some ideas for multi-aperture frames and canvas and print sequences for your consideration. You can order at your viewing session, and there is a ten percent discount should you wish to place your order at this time. Please refer our prices and products page for more information regarding the high-quality bespoke products that we offer.
My aim is to make everything as easy as possible - relaxed, fun portrait sessions that record the new addition to your family in a way that will hold real memories for you and your children, and then years of enjoyment from your photographs.
