How it works

At Helen Bartlett Photography, our aim is to make every aspect of your portrait session effortless and enjoyable - from your first contact with us, through to your photo shoot itself, the ordering process, and then the delivery of your pictures.

I aim to produce images that tell stories, capture emotions, reflect the love you have for your children, and the relationships between siblings; images that will exceed your expectations and give you lasting pleasure.

Helen Bartlett Photography – the team

Helen Bartlett Photography is a small business – there are two of us, Helen and Kate. Working together with different skill bases, we are able to provide an excellent service to you, our clients.

Our approach to children’s and family photography

After your initial enquiry, Kate will be in touch to discuss your requirements and our current availability. Weekends and dates during the school holidays are most popular, so do get in touch early to avoid disappointment. Kate is also very happy to answer any questions you might have.

"If you want relaxed yet classic photography of your children being completely themselves, look no further"
- Alison

I like to arrive nice and early - 8am tends to be the perfect start time as everyone has had a good night’s sleep, and is feeling bright and full of beans. The light is also at its best first thing in the morning and the early bird definitely has the pick of the best locations at the park – I’m often with the first family to be out and about on a Saturday morning.

We will play games, explore, run around, and have fun. It’s always such a pleasure photographing children as they have such a brilliant sense of wonder, and that is catching – I find myself caught-up in games, chasing leaves, juggling apples, building dens, searching for the Gruffalo, a myriad of activities. The best pictures come from when everyone is enjoying themselves, and the world of the imagination is a fabulous place for photography.

By starting our shoot early in the morning, we will have plenty of time to take pictures without feeling rushed, allowing time for breaks for biscuits (for the children) and coffee (for the grown-ups). If it is raining, we'll photograph indoors and we will still get lots of lovely photographs.

My photo shoots usually finish around lunchtime and I'll leave you all tired and happy, ready for an afternoon snoozing in front of CBeebies.

After your photo shoot

A day or so after your shoot, we will be in touch to arrange your viewing session, which will take place at your home at a convenient time – we work around you and can accommodate viewings on evenings and weekends if that suits you best.

The aim of the viewing session is to show you what is possible with your photographs – you will be shown the photographs from your portrait session on a large desktop screen and look at a suggested album design, ideas for multi-aperture frames and collections of framed prints. We will provide you with a starting point for your decision-making process, and our clients find this incredibly helpful.

By having the viewing session in your home, we can advise you on which pictures in which size will look best in your home, and give you a few ideas that you perhaps wouldn’t have previously considered. We also use software that enables us to show you what the pictures will look like in-situ in different spaces in your home, making it very easy for you to make informed decisions.

We will show you around sixty images which have been carefully edited by Helen. These will include a variety of family pictures, individual portraits, action shots, and images of your family playing together and interacting. The images in our photoblog and feature galleries give a really good feel for the variety of images you can expect from your portrait session.

At your viewing session, you will also see samples of our albums, unframed and framed fine art prints, and contemporary acrylic and aluminium-mounts to help you choose how you would like to present your pictures. Please refer our prices and products page for more information about the extensive options on offer.

An effortless and enjoyable experience

Like every aspect of our business, we make the process of choosing your images effortless and by the end of your viewing session, you will be sure that you have made the right choices. Your order will be placed the next day and delivered within four - six weeks (we will contact you to arrange a convenient time for delivery).

If this sounds like the effortless and enjoyable family photography experience you would enjoy, then please contact us or call on 0345 603 1373 to discuss your requirements - we would love to hear from you.
