Portrait photography in Cambridge, London and East Anglia

The aim of my photography is to create natural images of your children that truly reflect their personalities and provide a lasting reminder of a moment in their childhood both for you and for them.

I like to capture the look a child gives to his or her parents, the love in the parents' eyes and the real and vital bond between siblings - whether that is shown in a helping hand when climbing a tree or 'borrowing' each other's toys when they think that nobody is looking. My photo shoots are about your children, celebrating their individuality and their personalities to provide real and powerful memories, which can be looked back on with happiness and laughter for years to come.

Each and every shoot is important to me. I invest all of my emotion, skill and experience into ensuring I can capture the very best images on the day for you and your children to treasure for the rest of your lives. I have a very high return rate from my clients because I invest time in building a proper relationship with you and with your children so that we can continue to work together for years to come, recording your children's lives as they grow up.

How my portrait sessions work

My children's portrait sessions usually take place in the morning. I recommend that we start straight after breakfast and carry on taking pictures for the whole morning. Starting early means that your children are at their best and we have plenty of time to play; we can also take advantage of the best light the day has to offer.

Pictures can be taken at your home or we can go to a place your family enjoys, such as the park, the woods or the beach, or we can use a combination of locations. By photographing the children in their own environments, the artificial nature of the 'photo shoot' is removed, leaving a entertaining day out with all the fun that can bring.

I work in a fairly hands-off manner throughout the shoot (although there may be a small amount of direction if you have more than one child that you wish to have photographed together). I always try to keep it relaxed and fun and make any staged groupings a very small part of the day. The majority of the time is spent watching events unfold, capturing the excitement and fun of whatever we do, whether it is playing on the swings, kicking a football, or hunting for lions in the long grass. The most important thing is that it is fun. This way I can capture natural portraits of your children, a true reflection of who they are.

My sessions are very relaxed and we can take breaks for a snack, a nap or even a bit of quiet time in the middle of the morning. Different moods create different pictures and each can bring something very special to your selection of pictures, from boisterous energy during a game to a quiet moment with a book or favourite toy.

There is always an element of the unexpected when working with children and this really adds to the fun and to the unique nature of each and every photoshoot.
