Just One - Thomas

Posted in Just One at 16:30 on 31/01/2013

We have a new type of post on the blog today - 'Just One', a sneak preview from my most recent shoot.

Kate and I have been discussing adding something like this to the photoblog for a while - after Kate's wedding, we were both guilty of searching her photographer's blog every day as we were so excited to see the pictures.

Like us, families who have recently had a portrait session tell us that they are bursting to see just a glimpse of what is to come and so here we are - 'just one' image from yesterday's wonderful photo shoot with baby Thomas in Balham, South London.

This image caught my eye when I was downloading the pictures from the shoot. I love everything about it - Dad's hand holding baby Thomas and baby Thomas holding his Dad's hand. It's such a tender moment and shows a wonderful closeness, as well as emphasising how tiny Thomas is. This capturing of a fleeting moment in time - with all its emotion, closeness and family ties - is what photography is all about for me.

Do check the photoblog again soon for more images from Thomas's baby and family photography session taken on-location at home in South London.

Portrait photography shoot in London featuring twin boys

Posted in Children at 12:00 on 31/01/2013

Whilst chatting to a friend who is also a family and children's photographer in London the other day, they commented that I seem to spend all my time in Notting Hill and Holland Park nowadays! That’s not entirely true - I travel all over London on a regular basis - but I do feel that Notting Hill and Holland Park are some of my absolute favourite places for family portrait photography and I'm lucky that I am able to visit this fantastic locations so often.

I was thrilled when Laura contacted us and asked if I would photograph her twin boys in Notting Hill. As the weather was good, a trip to the park seemed a very good idea. We headed out to Holland Park for some children’s photography fun and we weren’t disappointed - it was one of those days with beautiful soft light and not too cold for once, so we had a great time running around and exploring (not to mention chasing the pigeons, which always puts me in mind of the Whacky Races).

It was a really fun morning that resulted in a great set of pictures. Here are a few favorites from our children’s portrait photography shoot in Holland Park in London - I hope you enjoy them.

Newborn portrait photography in Sydenham near Dulwich, South London

Posted in Newborn at 12:00 on 30/01/2013

There are days when I am frankly astonished by the places people find this website. We were very pleased (and quite surprised) when John contacted us from the US to see if he could book a newborn portrait photography session for his daughter in Sydenham, near Dulwich in South London.

You can imagine my astonishment when not only had John found my website from all that distance away, but to recognise the name of his daughter as someone I had lived with at Cambridge University and had since lost touch. We responded with a ‘I don’t suppose it’s the same person, but was your daughter the same Beth who lived in Clare Hall….’ email and lo and behold, I had a session booked with an old friend I hadn’t seen for years! Honestly, I can’t tell you how excited and pleased I was.

I arrived at Beth’s house and it was just wonderful - wonderful to see an old friend, wonderful to meet her lovely husband, and wonderful to take photographs of her beautiful newborn baby, Albert.

It was a great morning filled with laughter and I’m so thrilled to be back in touch. Here are some of my favorite images from our newborn baby and family portrait photography session in Sydenham near Dulwich in South London.

I hope you enjoy them and if you would like to arrange a portrait session for your own family, please contact us here - it would be great to hear from you.

Christening and family photography in Holland Park, London

Posted in Parties and Occasions at 09:00 on 27/01/2013

I always reflect on how lucky I am to have so many repeat clients for my children family and baby photography in London and throughout the UK. I first met Belinda back in 2005, and have visited Belinda and her growing family every couple of years since then. It’s such fun to watch the children grow and to get to know the family over the years.

I’ve photographed two London-based christenings for Belinda now and they have both been an absolute pleasure from start to finish. Thomas’ christening in Chelsea was no exception.

When photographing christenings, I tend to meet my families at home first to capture some family shots and pictures of the children as you never know how the little ones will react to a christening and to all the people at a big family gathering afterwards. Also, everyone has a bit of time beforehand, while afterwards there are guests to entertain, champagne to be drunk and - in this case - a brilliant children’s entertainer to watch.

So first of all a few family shots, as always the children were great fun and full of giggles. Then off to the church to meet family and friends. Unlike weddings, christenings are often quite restricted on when you can take pictures but I was allowed a couple of shots in the church which is lovely to have.

Then back to Belinda’s beautiful London home for some photographs of the christening party. I’m thrilled with the pictures and I do hope you will enjoy them as much as I do.

Hampstead Heath and Belsize Park children's and family portrait photography

Posted in Children at 10:00 on 25/01/2013

Hampsted Heath and Belsize Park were the locations for this morning's wonderfully fun family and children’s portrait photography session. We made gingerbread men - can a day get more fun than that? But I get ahead of myself…

I arrived at Justin’s beautiful home in Hampstead just as everyone was finishing breakfast. I enjoyed a cup of coffee while watching the children demolish bowl after bowl of Cheerios in a manner that warmed my heart (nothing makes me happier than seeing children eat lots of food before a photo shoot, always good to be full of energy for running around). It was all very relaxed as we occasionally turned to the window and mused ‘I wonder if it will stop raining anytime soon?’. It was bucketing down, cats, dogs, rabbits... the works.

Still, we live in the UK and so a bit of rain can’t put us off. After breakfast we donned umbrellas, wellies and waterproofs and set off for Hampstead Heath. It was staggeringly beautiful. Yes, it was as wet as wet can be, but the mist and the soft light was a delight - truly an amazing setting for pictures.

We did some exploring on the heath and captured some lovely pictures before finally giving into the fact that yes, we were all getting completely drenched and it was probably time for some hot chocolate.

Once back home, we soon decided to get cracking with some baking, one of the family's favorite activities and one that I absolutely love for photography - the messier the activity, the happier I am.

It was great fun and we made some delicious gingerbread men, a real perk of the job.

Here are some of the pictures - there are so many favorites to choose from this children's, baby and family portrait photography session in Belsize Park and Hampstead Heath in London.

I do hope you enjoy this selection and if you would like me to visit and capture some pictures of your own family, please contact us - it would be great to hear from you.
