Newborn baby photographer in Parsons Green, Fulham

Posted in Newborn at 12:00 on 29/01/2014

I love photographing newborn babies - there is such a wonderful magical feeling surrounding such a tiny, teeny little person. It's a real privilege and a joy to be able to capture such a special time for my clients. It's even more wonderful if it's clients who I've got to know really well over a number of shoots, and who are incredibly special to me.

Kate and I were so excited when we heard that Jennifer and Carlos were expecting another baby, and absolutely thrilled that I would be visiting them at their Parsons Green home soon after the birth to meet the new arrival and capture some newborn baby and family photographs to mark this amazing time. I couldn't wait to meet little Thomas, and have Stella introduce me to her new baby brother.

As always, I arrived bright and early - I like to start early to get the children at their best and particularly with newborn babies when nobody has slept, it's great to start early in the day to allow everyone to have that all important lunchtime nap. Also, Stella had a very big day at nursery, so we needed to make sure we could capture some family pictures before she left.

Thomas was an absolute joy and, as always, Stella was a super star. We had such a wonderful time with some family shots first - parents, big sister and newborn baby brother all in lovely relaxed family portraits. Initially with Stella in her beautiful dress ,before she changed into the most incredible ladybird outfit - sent over from America especially (for a halloween-themed day at nursery, not for my photoshoot I should add, although that would have been cool!). I love Carlos's face in the picture of Stella showing off her outfit - so pleased, proud and happy looking at his lovely little girl.

Once Stella had left for her nursery, we settled down to take some more individual newborn baby portraits of Thomas and as well as some lovely family photos as Thomas snoozed happily - so relaxed and tranquil throughout his first photo shoot. I love taking really natural shots of newborn babies - no props or baskets, just the babies in their home environment surrounded by the love of their parents. It's all we need for the most magical, timeless images of newborn babies and the families who love them.

I hope you like enjoy this selection of my favourite images from our newborn baby, child and family photography session in Parsons Green in Fulham, West London

Baby and family photography featuring nine month old twins in High Wycombe

Posted in Babies at 12:00 on 27/01/2014

Today’s blog post features some more pictures from a wonderful photo shoot just before Christmas with Liz and her beautiful nine month old twin girls. Nine months old is a wonderful age for photographing babies - they are always such a pleasure to be around, so full of smiles and giggles, and so cute and snuggly. Babies are usually sitting up very steady on their own by nine months, which means that the options for really varied and intereting photographs are much greater than when they are a little younger and needing pillows to prop them up. It’s truly one of my favorite ages for baby photographs.

We had the most lovely time photographing Jessica and Harriet, who were both an absolute joy. We started at home – or at their grandparents' home in High Wycombe to be precise, as the family was visiting from Germany at the time of our session. I started by photographing them on the bed as this works really well with younger children. By raising them up off the floor, we are able to utilise the natural window light much better - otherwise, because they are still so small, babies can be caught in the shadows in a house, not bathed in lovely natural light.

The bed is also a lovely spot for the children – they always feel so happy on a nice soft surface that they can roll around on, or whilst sitting up, practicing crawling and generally being all snuggly and warm.

Once the children started to get a bit tired and nap time approached, we wrapped everyone up warm and headed outdoors for a bit of fresh air for the grown ups and a snooze in the pushchair for the twins before taking some shots outside. The twins had the most incredible snow suits I have ever seen - clearly Germany does these things very well, and they looked so sweet. As a Ghostbusters fan, I can’t help thinking of Mr Stay Puft when I see these - they make me laugh out loud, they are so cute.

Then it was back home and indoors for some shots of the girls just in their nappies with some cute little nappy cover knickers on. It’s lovely to capture some shots like this when the children are still so little - time flies so fast in the first few years and it won't be long until they are toddling about. I do love to capture these fleeting moments before they are gone.

So here we are, some favourite pictures from our wonderful baby and family photo shoot - it was enormous fun and I hope you will enjoy them, this selection from our nine month old twins and family photography session in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.

London children's birthday party photography at Cupcake in Parsons Green, Fulham

Posted in Parties and Occasions at 12:00 on 24/01/2014

I recently posted a ‘Just One’ preview image from Stella’s wonderful birthday party at Cupcake in Parsons Green in London, and am very excited to be sharing some more images from Stella’s second birthday party today.

I had the most lovely time photographing Stella’s birthday party - it was such a fun day and Stella had the most wonderful time, especially as family were visiting from America to share her special day. Her little face was lit-up by the most incredible smile all afternoon. It’s always wonderful to see children enjoying themselves and it’s such a brilliant thing about my job that I get to capture this unbounded joy in children’s birthday party photography.

For Stella and her little friends, I think the high point of the party – apart from the amazing cake, of course – was the ball pit. I always love a ball pit (although always with a slight twinge of jealousy, as I was never allowed in them when I was tiny - perhaps my mother thought that trying to keep an eye on all four of us was a step too far). Ball pits make for such wonderful photographs, as the patterns made by the balls provide really fun backgrounds and the sheer joy on the children’s faces as they launch themselves into the plastic balls is fabulous to behold. I love the laughter, the splashing (do you splash with balls? I’m not sure, but you know what I mean I’m sure), the throwing of the balls in the air and the quiet moments too - the counting, the separating different colours, how it can be calm for a moment and then BAM! as another child has flung themselves in and everyone has collapsed into wonderful laughter and smiles. It's just wonderful and such a brilliant opportunity for really lovely, interesting and creative portrait photographs of the young children.

I loved how the older children and teenagers really enjoyed the party, too – playing with the younger children and impressing them with feats of juggling and balloon throwing. It’s always wonderful to see teenagers really enjoying large family occasions and entertaining their younger relatives and their friends. They seemed to be having a brilliant time and I really enjoyed capturing this wonderful interaction at Stella's birthday party.

As always with younger children’s birthday parties, the adults had a wonderful time too - chatting to their friends and family, and playing with the children. It’s such a lovely opportunity to have pictures of family and friends as they are enjoying themselves in a natural environment and feasting on such wonderful food as they celebrated with Stella in Parsons Green, Fulham.

I do hope you enjoy this selection of children and family photographs from Stella’s wonderful second birthday party at Cupcake in Parsons Green, in South West London SW6.

Newborn baby and family photography in Surrey

Posted in Newborn at 12:00 on 22/01/2014

For the photos featured in today's blog post, I visited Banstead in Surrey to meet John, Stephanie and baby Joshua. I love newborn photography sessions - it’s a real privilege to meet families at such an amazing time, and we had a really wonderful morning photographing little Joshua.

Joshua was such an alert little baby - his beautiful eyes already seemed full of personality even though he was only a few days old. I know that babies of a few days old can’t see everything that is going on, but it really seemed as if Joshua was following all the action – his focus on his mummy and daddy, the centre of his world!

Joshua’s shoot also involved one of my favourite newborn pictures ever, which is the lovely shot of him and the family's two dogs. I’m still amazed we captured that shot - everything is just perfect, even the dogs posing for the camera and little Joshua looking straight into the lens. It’s shots like these that just happen and, as a photographer, you need to be ready for them and have everything in place to capture them and save the moment forever.

It was a real priviledge watching the interaction of this new family – baby Joshua and his beautiful mother Stephanie, so besotted by her wonderful baby boy and proud father John, so protective of his family. It’s such an incredible thing to witness these early days as everyone gets to know each other and the new family finds its feet. I always feel quite overwhelmed by the sheer wonder of it and I love the fact that these pictures will be kept forever, treasured as they hold so many memories of such a special time.

So here we are, some special moments to share with you from our newborn baby and family photography session in Banstead, Surrey - I do hope you enjoy them.

Family photography in Putney, South West London

Posted in Family at 12:00 on 17/01/2014

I first met Kristina and her wonderful family back in 2007 and our annual autumn photo shoots are something I look forward to each year, as they are always such fun. Each year we try to vary the location for our children and family photography session - we’ve been to Richmond and we've been to Wimbledon; we’ve stayed at home, and gone out and about; we photographed on days with the most incredible winter light, and we’ve photographed on days when it has poured with rain. We’ve captured, over the years, a really lovely record for the children that I am sure they will really appreciate when they have grown up. The older I get myself, the more I value the photographs of me and my family that I have taken or had taken over the years.

This year we jumped in the car and headed down to the river in Putney to a park that the children visit regularly. It was a great spot for children and family photography and I was absolutely over the moon when I spotted the most incredible avenue of trees down by the river – truly a photographer's dream and the backdrop I chose for some formal family photographs.

As well as some formal group shots for the family's Christmas card, we captured some fun pictures as the children played and enjoyed themselves - it’s always important to mix-up the staged family shots with lots of fun playing for the children, or they quickly get bored.

We also explored down by the River Thames and looked at the houseboats, which were really incredible and so different to those I used to run by each day in Cambridge - some of these house boats were enormous, more like river castles than houseboats!

Then we headed back home for a snack and to take some pictures with Grandma and Granddad, who had come over for some pictures but who didn’t fancy the idea of walking too far. We captured some lovely shots of the children with their grandparents and, because it would be madness not to, some shots of the children on the trampoline - always a favorite of mine.

It was such a fun session as always and I’m thrilled to bits with the pictures. I hope you will enjoy looking at them, some of my favourites from our children and family photography session in Putney, South West London.
