Publicity shots in Cambridge

Posted in Headshots at 09:55 on 29/04/2009

My good friend Gianluca needed some publicity shots for his new book and so I was delighted to spend a couple of hours with him taking photographs in Cambridge. We had a great time and had amazing evening light to work with which is always a treat for me as most of my shoots are in the morning.

Here are some of my favorite images, I hope you like them

Does anyone recognise this letter?

Posted in Miscellaneous at 11:17 on 28/04/2009

A rather odd blog post from me this morning but I was wondering if anybody recognises their handwriting on this letter that arrived for me this morning (the original writing not my mother's forwarding address).

The letter arrived opened and empty and so I have no idea what it contained or who it was from. I would love to find out so please do get in touch if you recognise it.

Teenager photoshoot in Surrey

It was a great pleasure to visit Deborah and her family and take some photographs. Deborah was in charge of my accounts when I first started my business and was a huge help with setting up and getting the first few years worth of accounts sorted out.

I spent a great morning with her lovely family and Alex was a joy to photograph, such a fun and interesting young man, and a demon at pool and on the Wii!

Here are a few favorites

Children's portrait photography seminars in London and Birmingham

Posted in Seminars at 12:29 on 23/04/2009

After the huge success of my sold out Calumet seminar on Tuesday I wanted to post a reminder about the remaining three seminars that I am giving for Calumet.

The seminars have been going fantastically well so far and I have received great feedback from the attendees. Who have said:

'I found it very inspiring'

'I thank you for an excellent seminar that you held in Manchester.I found it very informative, and you as a person very interesting and very entertaining'

'I really did enjoy the seminar at Manchester. It was very well structured and your humorous delivery got the points across in just the right way to keep everyone engaged. The photography was, as always, stunning. Delivered in a thoroughly professional manner and the music choices were great too. The last one actually brought a lump to my throat!'

'Thank you so much for the terrific seminar yesterday,it was lovely to meet the person behind those fab images'

'Just wanted to say thank you for an inspirational day on Tuesday in Belfast. Your vision is really unique.'

The seminars cover a huge amount of ground and are really packed with information. Among other subjects I cover

*Developing a signature style

*Ways to improve your photography

*Working with available light

*Working indoors on location

*Family and sibling shots

*Working with different ages

*Case studies for working in a family home and in a public park

The seminars would suit both professionals and also keen amaturs who want to be able to take better photographs of their family and friends.

There are two dates remaining:

30 April 2009 - Calumet Birmingham

26 June 2009 - Calumet London

Post-production for portrait & wedding photographers seminar

Posted in Seminars at 10:41 on 23/04/2009

Tom got so much great feedback from everyone who came to his wedding photography seminars at the end of 2008 and one of the strongest themes was that most people found the section dedicated to workflow the most useful part of the day. Everyone said that they would be queueing around the block for a full day's training on workflow and post-production, so Calumet have invited Tom to present another set of seminars in May:

Post-production for portrait and wedding photographers

Digital capture has given photographers an enormous amount of creative control over their work, but this means that taking great pictures is only the first step towards delivering fantastic results.

Tom will be presenting a seminar that will teach you the post-production skills you need to finish your portrait & wedding photographs to a professional standard. The course will explore:

Practical techniques that will bring the best out of your images.

Building these skills into an efficient workflow that supports your photographic style and makes the most of your time.

The seminar includes:

A catch-up session to bring your Photoshop skills up to speed.

Realising the potential of RAW files.

Producing great black & whites from digital images.

Practical retouching techniques.

Using special effects to polish your images.

Taking control of your workflow.

Everyone attending the seminar will also receive a disc containing details of the techniques demonstrated, sample files and the Photoshop Actions used during the course.

The seminar will run from 10:00 to 17:00 and is priced at £85. Tickets are now on sale for the following dates and locations:

Tuesday 5 May 2009 - Calumet Belfast

Thursday 7 May 2009 - Calumet London (Drummond Street Store)

Tuesday 12 May 2009 - Calumet Manchester

Wednesday 13 May 2009 - Calumet Bristol

Thursday 14 May 2009 - Calumet Birmingham
