Natural, unposed black and white family and children’s photography in Chiswick W4, at home and in some of West London’s most beautiful parks and gardens.
Family photography in Chiswick that reflects your lives
My approach to family photography is all about recording pictures that will hold memories for your family for decades to come. We spend a morning together doing the things you love on a family day out. We can head to the park or explore the beautiful grounds of Chiswick House and Gardens, stunning Kew Gardens, and the wonderful playground at Ravenscourt Park makes a brilliant location for children of all ages. Or we can stay at home and photograph your children doing their favourite indoor activities: all the things that reflect your life at this particular time.
It is worth spending a little time thinking about what makes your family tick before the session, because the best pictures always come from the things your children genuinely love. A musical instrument, a baking session, a game of hide and seek, a favourite costume – all of these are perfect material for photographs that will feel personal and real for as long as you look at them.
My style of family and children’s photography
I work exclusively in black and white to produce timeless images that really capture emotion and that will look as beautiful in fifty years as they do today. My approach is documentary and observational: I photograph what is actually happening rather than directing people into poses. As a Canon Ambassador since 2017 – the only family photographer in the EMEA region to hold that status – and with multiple industry awards and over 400 blog posts, you can be absolutely sure of the quality and consistency of my work.
Do spend some time looking through the galleries and the blog to get a feel for the pictures. The Chiswick sessions in particular give you a strong sense of the variety of images we produce across the grounds of Chiswick House, the parks, and at home.
How your Chiswick family photography session works
I have been photographing families in Chiswick and across West London for over 20 years, and the relaxed, unhurried approach I have developed over that time is one of the things my clients value most. Having a whole morning together gives us real flexibility: we often start out at Chiswick House, Kew or Ravenscourt Park beating the crowds and getting the early morning light and then head home towards the end of the morning for a snack and some relaxed indoor images. It’s very relaxed and lots of fun. We follow your family’s natural rhythm rather than working to a rigid plan.
If you have young children I always work around naptimes and feeds, and having a full morning means there is never any pressure on a child to perform for the camera. Family photo shoots in Chiswick are relaxed and genuinely fun for everyone. Children almost always forget I am there, which is exactly when the best photographs happen.
Your photographs after the session
After your Chiswick family photo shoot, I arrange a private viewing session where you see all your edited images together for the first time. At the viewing, you choose what you would like to order from a range of beautiful options. I work with top printers and framers to produce museum-quality display prints and wall art, and my albums are designed to show your pictures at their very best. You can expect a wonderful experience from your first enquiry right through to delivery.
I cannot recommend Helen more enthusiastically. The results of our family photography session with her took my breath away. Each image is a work of art in itself which we will cherish for years to come. The photos she took of our two children beautifully depict each of their little characters – she has a way of capturing the precise moment.

Family Photography in Chiswick – Frequently Asked Questions
Chiswick House and Gardens is my favourite location in this part of West London: the grounds are beautiful, the trees are extraordinary, and the variety of backdrops means we can produce a really wide range of pictures in a relatively small area. Ravenscourt Park is wonderful for younger children and has one of the best playgrounds in West London and Kew Gardens is famed for its beauty all over the world. I also use the river towpath at Strand-on-the-Green and Gunnersbury Park, depending on the session and the time of year. If you have a favourite local spot, I am always happy to include it.
Yes, absolutely, and many of the pictures I am most pleased with from Chiswick sessions are taken at home. There is something irreplaceable about photographs taken in the place where your family actually lives, surrounded by the things that belong to your everyday life. I usually suggest spending at least part of the session at home, though we can plan the morning entirely around what suits you and your children best.
As well as Chiswick itself, I regularly photograph families in Kew, Hammersmith, Gunnersbury, Turnham Green, Bedford Park, and along the Strand-on-the-Green stretch of the river. If you are based in W4, W6, W3, TW8, or TW9, you are well within the area I cover as part of a standard session. I travel throughout West London and beyond.
Absolutely. I photograph families with children of all ages, from newborns right through to teenagers, and many of my Chiswick clients have been coming back to me year on year as their children grow. With very young babies I work entirely around naptimes and feeds, starting at home where everyone is comfortable and relaxed, and then heading outside if the baby is happy to do so. Toddlers and pre-schoolers are some of my favourite subjects: they are wonderfully unselfconscious and produce the most natural, joyful pictures.
A typical session runs for a full morning, from breakfast to lunch. This gives us plenty of time to move between different locations and activities without any sense of rushing, and time to let children settle in and forget the camera is there, which is when the best pictures happen. I always prefer to have more time than we need rather than less.
Just get in touch via the contact page and I will be delighted to hear from you. Tell me a little about your family, the ages of your children, and whether you have any particular locations or activities in mind, and we can start planning from there. Weekend sessions book up quickly, particularly in spring and autumn, so it is worth getting in touch sooner rather than later.
